The Odd Couple, by Neil Simon
October 17-18, 2008 - The Carriageworks, Leeds
With the classic comedy The Odd Couple, Amerrycan Theatre launched a bold new concept in audience participation: NightCast: the chance for an audience member to be part of the fun!
Newly split from his wife, Felix Ungar, a fastidious journalist, has nowhere to go during a sweltering New York summer night. So his friend, the divorced Oscar Madison, a slovenly sportswriter, urges him to move in with him. In time, the mismatched roommates are reduced to gibbering, nervous wrecks.

Not only did audiences enjoy Amerrycan’s cast of brilliant comic actors, but they also felt part of the performance with NightCast. When programming the show, it occurred to Bryan, “With such an enormously enjoyable script, why should we actors have all the fun? Let’s allow a member of the audience to show up before the performance, deck them out in a loud Hawaiian shirt, and let them sit with the poker buddies and have a few lines.”
Audiences clearly loved it: “It was a fabulous performance and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Amerrycan Theatre has enormous potential to give many other people a lot of pleasure.” Sharon Cain, Quest PR
